Student commit suicide in Aalo, VP arrested

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: A class XII student Tamer Yorpen of govt higher secondary school, Aalo is reported to have committed suicide last night. He hanged himself at his Upper Colony, Aalo house last night around midnight.

According to police source, Tamer was under stress after few of his friends were expelled from school who had come to his defense after an altercation with a junior student on Sept 12.

The situation in Aalo is reported to be tensed after the suicide of the young student with angry students seeking actions against the school authorities.

According to a school source, the social service captain of the school and a class XI student Token Bagra and Late Tamer had an altercation during the morning assembly after the former reprimanded his senior for not standing in the queue. The class XII students reacted to the incident and gheroud the chamber of the principal and vice principal expressing resentment at the mistreatment of a senior student at the hands of a junior student.

However, things took a turn for the worse when the school authority led by vice principal of the school Jomdo Lona restricted seven students involved in the incident. The committee formed by the school authority rusticated two class XII students Mimar Doji and Johny Ragyor from the school for the whole year while three students were expelled for one month and two for fifteen days respectively.

According to a police source quoting the father of the deceased, Tamer was deeply affected and depressed by what happened before he took the extreme step.

Meanwhile, Vice Principal Jomdo Lona has been arrested and a case had been registered under section 306 of IPC against him. Angry at the death of the young students, some youths allegedly attacked the VP at his residence and damaged his car.

The relatives have demanded setting up of an independent judicial inquiry to investigate the whole episode and award exemplary punishment for those responsible for Tamer’s death.

All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) including community/area based and district students unions including West Siang District Students Union (WSDSU), Galo Students Union (GSU), Kargu-Kardi Students Union (KKSU), Basar Area Students Union (BASU), Paktu Aao Youth Welfare Association (PAYWA), Jigo-Yego Youth Association, (JYYA) All Bori-Bokar Students Union (ABBSU) and All Bokar-Ramo-Pailibo Students Union (ABRPSU), has reacted strongly to the case.

The conglomeration of organizations under the aegis of AAPSU squarely blamed Jomdo Lona, Vice-Principal, Govt. Hr. Sec. School along with the five other teachers for the death of the young student.  The 5 member committee is solely responsible for coercing the young student to take extreme step of taking his own life, it said. It appealed the authorities to immediately arrest all the teachers involved and termination from their service for their involvement that resulted into the death of a student.

It further appealed professionals not to seek bail on behalf of the accused teachers as it may flare up the situation at Aalo.

The organizations further said that Arunachal Teachers Association should not to interfere into this matter and let the law take its own course of action.

The Union said that instead of owning responsibility to the whole event,  Vice Principal, Govt Hr Sec School, manhandled Gokar Basar, President, Galo Students Union today and threatened him not to lodge FIR against him or face dire consequence.

The AdiSU has also strongly demanded that inquiry be carried out by the concerned authorities to initiate immediate steps to unearth the truth behind the whole episode and take action accordingly. The union said that case should not be treated as a suicide case but as murder by the vice-principal.

The AdiSU also requested the Arunachal Teachers Association to refrain from involving in the issue as “injustice has happened to the student who was compelled to kill himself”.

Union seeks CM’s resignation

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Alleging dysfunctional Government machinery due to stalemate in the leadership issue, the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Tribal Union (APITU) has demanded immediate resignation of Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin.

“We are  extremely distressed with the consequences resulting from the stalemate in the leadership crisis in the Government of Arunachal Pradesh that has completely halted the daily business of the government machinery,” APITU said in a release.

“What has come as shocking is the complete halt in functioning of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. It is learnt that the CM Secretariat, which is temporally situated within the premises of the Chief Minister’s Official Residence, has been fortified along with the bungalow. This has turned the highest office of the state completely inaccessible to the common man; it said and questioned the intention of the government.

Besides, the government under the present leadership is also drawing selfish benefits taking advantage of the crisis, it alleged.

“With the bureaucracy running without ministerial heads or solely being run on whims and fancies of those close to the Chief Minister, public exchequer is being looted non-stop.” it alleged

“Takar Marde as the Home Minister has also failed from all fronts in maintaining law and order across the state. The recent violence witnessed in the state capital and the prevailing tensions are just a few instances of his failure. The latest news that a vice principal has been seriously manhandled and assaulted by miscreants at Aalo in West Siang district proves the allegation beyond doubt,” APITU said and demanded his resignation at the earliest.

Deepawali  – The festival of inner cleansing for enlightenment

Dr. Jayadeba Sahoo

India as a spiritual oriented country is very well known for celebrations in the form of different festivals and fairs. The number of festivals celebrated here is hardly comparable to festivals celebrated by other countries. Twelve months in a year filled with more than thirteen big festivals. The main festivals celebrated in Bharat with great zeal and enthusiasm, pomp and gaiety are Shiva Ratri or Shiva Jayanti, Holi, Raksha Bandhan, Shri Krishna Janamashtami, Navratri, Dassehra and Deepawali, etc. Deepawali has a special importance amongst them. Though all these festivals are celebrated as per tradition, each festival has its own scientific, moral, ethical and social value. If Deepawali is celebrated with the correct understanding of it’s cryptic Truth, then it will render immense benefit to the humanity at large.

This is a very popular festival in many parts of India. The celebration of Diwali is marked by the lighting of innumerable lamps in every courtyard and the bursting of crackers. Sweetmeats, new clothes etc., are there as in other festivals. The time for rejoicing is mainly early morning and late night. These hours of darkness bordering the waking hours are preferred as lights and crackers are the highlights of the festivities and these need darkness to have their illuminating effect. Hence people rise early and go late to sleep.

Lord Budha attained final enlightenment after four decades of purging negative and irrelevant thoughts and focusing on positive and purposeful thoughts pertaining to goal of life.  That was a long but steady process of inner cleansing which ultimately made him a realized and enlightened soul. During Diwali – the festival of lights, people clean their hearth, home and surroundings and keep their houses lighted with doors & windows open, hoping to be blessed by goddess Laxmi’s auspicious visit and presence. Outward cleanliness and purity are of no use, if the individual inside is dirty, dishonest and deceitful in intentions and actions.  If the person is unclean in his mind, corrupt in intelligence and vicious in habits, then no amount of external purification can bestow any sanity or luck to the person.

Goddess Laxmi whom people venerate as bestower/ giver of wealth and prosperity, is herself an embodiment of innate qualities like purity, peace, tranquility, love and power which are not physical but spiritual wealth or treasures needed to be inculcated and developed in life rather than to be begged or bestowed in the form of blessings. In fact, the festival of Diwali inspires us to look within, introspect and meditate on what has gone wrong when and where in our life?  Are we goaded by our senses or are we able to guide them properly?  Is our mind ruling over thoughts?  Is our intellect making correct discrimination and judgment?  Are our sanskars or habits healthy and harmonious for self and others ? It is the materialistic mindset which prompts people during Diwali to invoke goddess Laxmi for physical riches and resources which by nature are incapable of ensuring lasting peace and happiness.  In fact, in their rat race for materialistic acquisitions and sense gratification, people have forgotten the old wise maxim that purity is the mother of peace and happiness.

Purity, in fact, is much deeper than mere cleanliness.  It connotes positive, healthy, universal and altruistic nature of our thoughts, emotions, attitude and memories (TEAM), which begets love, compassion, peace, harmony and happiness. Conversely, impurity implies our negative, narrow, selfish and egoistic character of our TEAM, which creates hatred, animosity, conflicts, clashes, sorrows   and   sufferings. If the divine quality ‘purity’ is symbolized by goddess Laxmi and other deities, devilish quality ‘impurity’ is symbolic of demons like Narakasur & King Bali who in epics have been described to have imprisoned goddess Laxmi and other deities in nether world.  Allegorically, we see that such impurity of consciousness, vision, values, character and conduct are ruling over our times and lives today with impurity and has rendered the world to become a veritable hell (Naraka) with crimes, corruption, disharmony, diseases and disasters.  Purging people and society off this evil spell of impurity with the regular infusion of purity in thoughts, words and deeds, would amount to annihilation of Narakasur and restoration of divinity and discipline in self and society.

Like Budha, we need to ask more basic questions as to what is our true identity and nature of self, purpose of existence and goal of life? We need to ignite the sparkle of purity in self, with the holy thoughts and spark of spiritual wisdom on the true nature and religion of our inner being, with its harmonious relations with fellow beings, society and ecology and with the blissful experience of its gleeful communion or meditation with the Supreme Soul. India’s ancient wisdom depicts the inner self of human being as a tiny and microscopic conscient point of light somewhere between and behind eyebrows.  It embodies seven (Satto) innate qualities such as purity, peace, love, happiness, bliss, knowledge and power.  The confluence and predominance of these seven core qualities in the self make the person sattoguni and enjoyer of true inner peace, tranquility and contentment. In the absence or weaker presence of these satto qualities, the person proportionately becomes rajoguni or tamohguni with innate proclivities predominated by aggressive, hostile, combative or negative nature propelled by ego, anger, avarice, attachment, lust and sense-servitude  thereby causing and experiencing pain and misery in self and others.

Excessive body consciousness or materialistic mentality is  the reason for preponderance of these unhealthy and harmful negative qualities and vices in the self and these evil traits grow and spread in society in epidemic proportion engulfing the lives of mankind in the darkness of all kinds of evils, ills & ailments, helplessness and hopelessness. The only ray of hope to fight and finish these mental maladies and their negative fallout in society, is to make a paradigm shift from our mundane or gross conscious mindset to   regular cultivation of soul consciousness and experiencing of soul’s innate positive qualities in constant intellectual communion with the Supreme Being- the eternal source of all virtues & powers- through Rajyoga Meditation. By this process of inner empowerment, we will be able to controls over our unruly senses, mind, intellect and habits and regulate them in positive, healthy, harmonious and balanced way for optimizing our happiness.

Thus, by lighting the inner light of soul and by experiencing its innate qualities and powers in a sustained way and by sharing & spreading the same with others in society through the practice and promotion of spiritual knowledge and Rajyoga Meditation, we can strengthen the process of self-enlightenment and social empowerment which all Diwali stands for.

The earthen lamps called DEEYAS, represent the body which is a combination of the five elements i.e. fire, water, air, space and earth. It is perishable and is only lent to us for a period of time - ash to ash, dust to dust. The flame of the deeya represents the soul, which, if connected with the Supreme Soul-God constantly, will give bright and sparkling rays. The oil represents the priceless ingredient - spiritual knowledge. To keep the flame alight means to be always conscious. “1 am light, being connected always

with the Supreme Light.”

The awareness “when I change, the world changes”, will spread a wave of change. It takes physical power to change the strength of the body. It takes mental power to change the quality of our thoughts, but it takes spiritual power to change the nature of ones being.

This period when Iron Age or Kaliyuga (Dark Age) is coming to an end and the Golden Age or Satya Yuga is about to commence is the present time, called Confluence Age or Sangamyuga (Transition Period). Jesus says, “When you see a cloud coming up in the west, at once you say, ‘It is going to rain,’ and it does. And when you feel the south wind blowing, you say ‘It is going to get hot,’ and it does. Hypocrites ! You can look at the earth and sky and tell what it means; why, then, don’t you know the meaning of this present time.”

On this special festival it is imperative for all to be awakened from that deep slumber of ignorance and be connected constantly with the Supreme Light through meditation. So, let us all irrespective of different religious faith celebrate this  ‘Deepawali’ to empower our self through process of Supreme Communion (Raja Yoga) with Him to inculcate His Supreme Commands of Universal Values to establish a “Value Based Happy Society of Culture of Peace & Non Violence” - our most cherished desire. The understanding of this eternal truth will usher in religious harmony & world peace. Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University has been engaged in this task for last 74 years since its inception in 1936-37.  The true way of celebrating ‘Deepawali’ would be to realize the significance of the present auspicious time ( Sangam Yuga, which is end of Kaliyuga - Iron Age and the beginning of Satyuga - Golden Age) and by pledging to discard all negative traits such as anger, greed, ego and lust and by leading a life filled of love, compassion, respect, humility, cooperation, responsibility, divinity to establish a “Value Based Happy Society of Culture of Peace & Non Violence”. Experience light, feel light, be light, spread light, for you are the Light of the world.

On this auspicious occasion of ‘ DEEPAWALI’, take a moment for deep spiritual introspection and free yourselves from the bondage of greed, the lust for power and a slave of promiscuity and make God your eternal companion for true peace, happiness and prosperity. Mistaken identity

Dear Editor,

This is in reference to the letter “For God sees everything” published on Oct 22/ by Api, it is unfortunate for me as the name happens to be the same as mine.

Apart from the name given in your paper there is no other identification which is causing misunderstanding as I share the same name and am a member Nirjuli Baptist Church.

I would request your esteemed daily to kindly publish any article with proper identification to avoid any kind of misunderstanding as such type of error can cause disturbances in a commoners’ daily life.

I, being a firm believer in Christ , I am disheartened by the comments given in the article, and would request the writer not to try to divide religion by such comments, we are all one in Christ and the churches in the state has been praying for peace since long.

Yours,

Teli Api

The copy paste power policy

Dear Editor,

Centuries of MoA have been signed so far, but policy makers of this tiny tot state are unable to accomplish appropriate power policy to benefit its own affected people. This has brought in multiple pains to the people and left them to conduct series of protests against the public hearing. All the blame has to be fixed to leaders responsible for realising the needs of the affected people. They have adopted the copy cat power policy of other states/central, whose yardstick to measure the quantum of rehabilitations scheme are not similar to that of ours.

Apart from present rehabilitation scheme which is one time package, state govt should come up with sustainable rehabilitation package to benefit PAF. This can be held by earmarking 5-7% out of total 12.5% free power receivable from poroject proponent for Project affected area. To planners this amount is huge enough to feed all kind of developmental requirements of the project affected area, and will also be pumped in the area annually. Once this kind of legislation is done, I truely hope that it will help PAF permanently and will remain same for their generations to come.

This issue affects for all the Districts, needless to quote that Projects are proposed in all of them.

These inputs are forwarded towards Policy makers without malice through your esteem forum.

Yours

Stop forming any more organization

Dear Editor,

This is in the reaction to the news item published in the name of All Nyishi Volunteer Youth Association (AN VYF).  We are deeply pained by their statement demanding action against present NES president Bengia Tolum. As per our observation this allegation seems baseless, as NES did not call any bandh on 11 Oct. Nyishi supported the bandh called by Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Tribes' union (APITU) because of their emotional outburst. In the Nyishi community everybody knows only two associations to whom ninety-nine percent of the Nyishi give mandate to look after Nyishi Cause; All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) And Nyishi Elite Society (NES). And both are doing sufficiently for the Nyishi interest. If someone is demanding arrest of Bengia Tolum, then every Nyishi of Five districts should be arrested including All Nyishi Volunteer Youth Association because they are also either part of ANSU and NES.

We request to stop forming association day by day in the name of Nyishi. All other association within Nyishi Community comes under the Banner of NES and ANSU. We give one mantra for the present problems. i.e simply stop forming more association.

We highly request Nyishi Consultative Committee (NCC) not to organize another rally at this juncture that will simply add to more law and order problem. If some misunderstanding is there let it be solved in between NES and Government, otherwise every citizen of Arunachal Pradesh will be confused between Congress and NCC.

Yours,

The missing marks

Dear Editor,

I would like to draw the attention of the APPSC on the confusing paper of the recent DSO/RO examination conducted on Oct 9. The candidate who opted mathematics subject were instructed to attempt any 8 questions each of 10 marks (i.e. 80 marks) whereas the total marks of the paper was 100. It was surprising to see that APPSC, the highest authority in the state and which is believed to be the fairest in the recruitment of public service seems so careless and irresponsible this time. This discourages the candidates especially those who opted for Mathematics.

Therefore, I appeal the commission to either re-conduct the Mathematics paper of the said exam or award us 20 marks. And I appeal the commission not to discriminate the candidate on the basis of subject.

Yours,

A candidate,  (on email)

Likabali and land encroachment

Dear Editor,

Likabali is a very old place  which needs immediate attention from illegal encroachment of Assam Govt. As the years are rolling every year land is encroached in a way or other. The Govt. should take immediate necessary action before it is too late. The Assam Gov has already occupied the Mopin field and converted the same into a training ground cum headquarter of 22nd IRBN. Again un-authorised sign board was erected in the Likabali market by the Assam Govt which was uprooted by the Arunachal Govt. This clearly indicates the intention of the Assam counterpart. Deploy IRBN jawans into the whole foothills abundantly and put nakas at every vulnerable points rather than deploying the trained jawans in traffic duties. Immediate deployment of force and Administrative alertness will be most welcome for the whole foothill area.

Yours,

R. Taipodia,

Likabali, (on email)

Diwali sans gambling

Dear Editor,

This is in reference to the executive order of the District Administration banning the playing of dice and any form of gambling during Diwali and also the crackers in the capital complex. Though it has disheartened many of the diwalians, the effort is worth appreciable. It has been observed that during diwali the craze for playing dice and gambling abruptly increase particularly among the tribal people though gambling has never been a part of tribal society of Arunachal Pradesh.  Man, Women, Children, every one found to be busy in gambling during the time of diwali festival. It has also been observed that many tribal women are actively involved in this game during the festival of diwali.

The quest for dice and gambling during diwali has ruined so many families. After losing the entire monthly and yearly planned budget, the only thing remains with them is complaining. The school fees, mobile bill, electricity bill, tuition fee, kitchen expenditures all lost in the midst of diwali. Who will pay this out standings?   Diwali as the name itself signifies the festival of light. So, we can enjoy it by decorating our sweet home with beautiful lights, candles and prepare sweets and snacks for the children and thereby enjoying the diwali to the fullest. Let us celebrate all the festival in right perspectives and enjoy it with the family members. Happy Diwali to all!!

Yours,

Minto Ete,

Problems commuters from Daporijo face

Dear Editor,

I would like to remind the concerned authority that the people of Upper Subansiri are facing untold miseries due to non availability of bus from Itanagar to Daporijo.

Let me share my personal experience. My grandma has pain in leg and was referred to RKM hospital. Being poor she couldn't afford to go by sumo. As usual the bus stopped at Naharlagun station and my poor uncle and grandma had to carry all the luggage to local taxi stand and then after so many hurdles they reached Itanagar. So I guess like my grandma many of our poor people are facing the same hardship. This changing of bus and luggage consumes additional time and money and moreover it is very tiresome. I wonder where are those so called leaders and student union who are meant to stand against such discriminations.

Is it not discrimination when all the district headquarters has the bus service directly from Itanagar whereas for Daporijo it is from Naharlagun? I really fail to understand, even after dropping so many articles in the newspaper the concerned authorities is least concerned to look into this serious matter.

I guess concerned authorities take us for granted. And in coming days they would start the bus service between Banderdewa to Daporijo instead of Naharlagun.

Yours,

Menbi Riddi

Please clear my confusion

Dear Editor,

This is regarding Arunachal Pradesh public service combined competitive Examination (Prelim) 2011, conducted by Arunachal Pradesh public service commission on 25th Sept. 2011.

I would like to draw the kind attention of the A.P.P.S.C. and all the aspiring candidates of the A.P.C.S. that the optional history question paper of the prelim 2011 consisted of 125 questions of which 67 questions were set from the previous history question paper of the year 2007. This means that 53. 6% questions were taken from the ready-made questions of the previous history question paper of the year 2007.

This finding put me in a position of utter confusion on the criteria of the questions for A. P. P. S. C. C. E. Is it genuine and rationale to copy more than 53% questions from the easily ready-made question of the previous question paper of the single set in exams like A.P.P. S.C.C.E.? What are the prescribed norms of questions?

Therefore, I request the highest and the most responsible recruiting agency of the state to check and match the prelim history question papers of both 2007 and 2011, and cast off my state of doubt and confusion.

Yours,

Kaling Lego

Itanagar.

Corporate corruption

According to the Stolen Asset Recovery (Star) initiative of the World Bank and the UNODC, most large-scale corruption cases involve using legal entities to conceal ownership and control of corrupt proceeds. Therefore, there is urgent need for greater transparency to reduce opportunities for wrongdoing.

The report, the Puppet Masters, examines how bribes, embezzled state assets and other criminal proceeds are being hidden via legal structures – shell companies, foundations, trusts and others. The study's release coincided with a UN conference on corruption in Marrakesh, Morocco, bringing together anti-corruption advocates and representatives from 154 states.

The World Bank and the UN note that 100 countries have ratified the 2003 UN convention against corruption and 170 jurisdictions have endorsed the 2003 recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). But, they say, laws and regulations, while important, are insufficient in themselves.

Campaigners welcomed the report but said the private sector too needed to be more transparent.

The report urged governments to devote more resources to training investigators in fighting financial crime, including large-scale corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing.
